Approach to CPR Induced Consciousness (CPRIC)
Question #44
Is there any consideration of adding a directive for CPR-induced consciousness (CPRIC) with the increased use of mechanical CPR devices?
Answer:
Currently, CPRIC is not addressed through a specific directive in the ALS PCS 5.4. Management requires a Base Hospital patch. Physician support is generally aligned with symptom control using aliquot administration of fentanyl, followed by midazolam if needed, until signs of consciousness or resistance resolve. This approach aims to manage the patient’s experience while maintaining effective resuscitation efforts.
